Ellian Zumeseh, a 20-year-old woman, is being held by the Sunyani Police Department for reportedly and deliberately throwing her three-month-old boy twins in a well.
The twins were discovered dead in a well.
The well is supposed to be in the house where Zumeseh lived in Abetifi Zongo, a Sunyani neighborhood, according to the police.
The incident, which occurred at 1.30 a.m. Monday, has shocked and stunned the neighborhood.
The babies were discovered floating in the well, drawing the attention of several family members.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Augustine Kingsley Oppong, the Bono Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), informed Graphic Online that a community businesswoman, backed by two police officers, detained and transferred the culprit to the Sunyani Police Station.
According to ASP Oppong, a team was deployed to the scene at Abetifi Zongo after the police received a report of the heinous conduct, where they discovered the twins’ bodies floating in the well.
He said that the bodies were recovered by the police, but that a thorough examination revealed no traces of violence.
However, there was a yellowish foam coming from their nostrils, he added.
The remains were taken to the Sunyani Regional Hospital’s Emergency Ward, where a medical officer certified them dead on arrival, according to ASP Oppong.
The bodies had been deposited at the same hospital’s mortuary for preservation and autopsy, according to the Bono Police Regional PRO.
He added Zumeseh, the suspect, had been held to help with the investigation.
