The trial of Gregory McMichael, his son Travis McMichael, and their neighbor William “Roddie” Bryan Jr., who is charged with malice and felony murder in the killing of Ahmaud Arbery, a 25-year-old Black man fatally shot while out for a jog on February 23, 2020, began on October 18 in Glynn County, Georgia.

The selected jury consists of 11 white people and one Black person in a county where more than a quarter of the population is Black, The New York Times reports. The judge acknowledged there appeared to be “intentional discrimination” in the jury selection, but allowed them to be seated, the Guardian reports.

The three white men have not pleaded guilty and also face charges of aggravated assault, false imprisonment and criminal attempt to commit false imprisonment.
